Strawberry Season Is Here, and Your Preserving List Starts Now

Strawberry season doesn't last long, so it's a good time to make the most of it. If you want jam, freezer filling, jelly, sauce, or dried strawberries, a good batch starts with good fruit. The berries should be bright red, firm, and fresh-smelling, with no mold or soft spots. For more tips, see how to select strawberries for preserving.

Strawberry recipes to keep on hand

A quick note before you start

Choose strawberries that are ripe, but not overripe. Look for berries that are evenly colored, dry, and free from bruising. For preserving, smaller berries can be just as useful as large ones, and sometimes better because they are firmer and easier to handle.

A good berry makes better jam, better filling, and better freezer storage. Pick well, then preserve while the strawberries are at their peak.

Happy Preserving!
